Collecting Barbie Dolls - their Perseverance
Barbie doll Collection has been there for quite a while and has accomplished many things. The Barbie Doll has been almost everything from the fashion model to the astronaut. It is better to say that the Barbie Doll is so famous that almost every girl owns one at least. But the Barbie isn't just for the little girls; Barbie Dolls are the highly collectible dolls. There exists Barbies made particularly for play and even there are Barbies that are made for the collectors.
The primary thing that you have to look upon when you begin collecting the Barbies is that what kind of the Barbie do you wish to collect? There exist thousands of various types of Barbies in the market. Very few people will have the storage space or the money to collect all of them. Let's have a look at the various types of Barbies which one can collect:
- The Vintage Barbie dolls: These are the dolls made much before 1972. Dolls of this kind are the ones that you'll pay the most for. Some of the vintage Barbies would even sell for more than thousand dollars.
- The Pink Box Barbies: These are the Barbies which are meant only for play. These are very inexpensive and are found in abundance in a local toy store.
- The Barbie collectible box is particularly designed for the adult collectors. These cost little more, but generally are not outrageously expensive.
- Collection by themes: Many kinds of themes are there for the Barbie collectors. There are the movie themes, such as the Wizard of Oz or Gone With The Wind, celebrity themes, like Barbie as I Love You Lucy, fantasy themes, holiday themes, and this list goes on.
- Fashion designers collection. These are the Barbies which are designed by the famous fashion designers like Christian Dior or Bob Macke.
Barbies have the condition grading system which looks very much like the baseball cards. The grade ranges from C1 being the worst to C10 being as the best. It is very important to memorize this grading system if you are planning to make some serious collection. It will help you to determine the Barbie's value that you may find.
Once you begin the Barbie collection it is very important to learn to store them. Improper storage could cause an irreparable damage to your doll and even to its clothing. The basement, attic or garage is not a place to store the dolls. These places aren't climate controlled and a fluctuation between cold and hot can damage your doll. Do not store the dolls in plastic containers of Tupperware type or in closed plastic bags. These containers could trap in the moisture and might cause the mold to form on the dolls. Few plastic containers emit gases that could harm vinyls or plastic, as well as the paper.
Storing the doll in the original boxes is the good idea. Best place to preserve the dolls is to store in a chest of drawers or in a trunk in an area which maintains the constant temperature.
